Chocolate and Coffee
Nate Howard writes of himself in third person, the only perspective on himself being so far removed from reality. Not entirely, he still reads the octane level and price at the pump.
But he lives on a wave, an erratic current that occasionally strikes down on earth as fire or ice.
Outside the window, he watches the traffic, the random cars and trucks passing along I90 on a frozen day, soon to be rising on the wave, departing from the gas pumps and moving traffic.
With the remainder of a chocolate bar, coffee and smokes, the opiates fire and he leaves his apartment.
